Course Description and Purpose

International Macroeconomics deals with the determinants of nominal and real exchange rates international capital movements, and trade imbalances. The main goal of this course is to address virtually all these core issues within a systematic approach.

 

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Recognize the concepts of National Income Accounting and the Balance of Payments.
  • Discuss what determines exchange rates.
  • Analyze the costs, benefits, and impacts of exchange rates on output.
  • Criticize the political economy of international monetary systems and optimum currency areas such as the European Union.
  • Explain the effects of financial globalization.

This is an online course, which means most (if not all) of the coursework will be conducted online. Expectations for performance in an online course are the same for a traditional course. In fact, online courses require a degree of self-motivation, self-discipline, and technology skills which can make these courses more demanding for some students.

Assignments

Each chapter is followed by a Homework and a Quiz. The aggregation of all homework and quizzes constitute the final grade. Students are required to purchase MyLab and Mastering by clicking on "MyLab and Mastering" on the left-hand-side menu of Canvas to have access to the assignments.

Homework

  • Each module is followed by a homework. Please check the deadline of each homework below or under "Assignments."
  • Late submission of a homework (after the deadline) is subject to 20% of a penalty per day from the final score of that homework.

Quizzes

  • Each module is followed by a quiz. Please check the deadline of each quiz below or under "Assignments."
